Dear Philippe,
this is a letter with a very clear and strong business message how the EU financial resources should be effectively mobilised to confront the financial and economic crisis. We very much appreciate that BUSINESSEUROPE asks in this letter as first priority for sufficient budgetary means to help countries facing severe financing difficulties, emphasizing the fact that this is particularly important for new member states not yet benefiting from the shield of the euro and going trough substantial exchange rate pressure.
Thank you very much for having taken on board in this letter our proposal to ask the Commission for a further increase of the ceiling of the EU´s financial assistance facility above € 25 billion in order to safeguard the financial viability of Member States severely affected by this crisis. European Industry and BUSINESSEUROPE were and are strong supporters of EU enlargement based on the fact that all EU countries are benefiting from enlargement and the economic catching up process of the new Member States. For us it is therfore a question of solidarity to stand side by side with the new Member States also in difficult times which could hit them harder than most of the EU-15 countries.
With best regards
Markus Beyrer
